The Northern Virginia Eagles completed Round 3 with a win over their rivals the Washington DC Slayers in a 54-18 victory leaving them 2-1 overall for the season thus far.
The Eagles drew first blood by scoring early in the first half. DC was able to work the ball down the field numerous times but the Eagles goal line defense proved to be a challenge for DC to break through. With high heat and humidity it seemed as though both sides were having difficulties holding onto the ball. Both defenses were laying out some massive hits but ultimately the Eagles offense starting running away with the lead.
Try scorers for the Eagles were Alex Franklin with 3, Ryan Burroughs with 3, Charles Agoma with 1 and Zach Fletcher with his first try ever. Leading scorer was Cameron Pyne with 1 try and 9 kick at goals for a total of 22 points. Man of the match for the Eagles was PJ Walter for his aggressive offensive runs and even more aggressive defense. A close second with Alex Franklin with his great offense and ability to read the field and players in front of him. Honorable mentions were Joe Reichert for his defense and Ryan Burroughs who had the play of the game and was able to strip the ball off of a kick off and run it back 35 meters for a try. The Eagles look to travel to Philadelphia this coming weekend to take on the Fight again and see if they can finally put an end to their winning streak.
