The NOVA Eagles 2016 season has kicked off and the team is starting to reap the rewards of a tough grinding preseason. The Eagles have recruited well this season with new faces and the inclusion of import player Roy Bell and exempt player Luke Titus, both Australians with experience in some of the toughest Rugby League competitions in Australia. The Eagles also retained a lot of loyal and familiar players from last years club record breaking team such as PJ Walter, Phil Dorn, Chris Fraiser, Dylan Seeley, Bryant Alexander, Justin Hackett and Nate Hart. The Eagles have found new fitness levels and are ready to go this season.
The Round 1 game saw the NOVA Eagles facing Delaware who recruited well in the offseason and were a virtually new outfit. NOVA defended their home ground, Grizzley Sports Complex, walking away with the win 34-22.
The next opponent NOVA faced was the defending champions Boston 13s in Round 2. This was always going to be a tough match, also a good indication of where the team was at and things to come. Although Boston made a handful of team changes, the NOVA Eagles played an outstanding game taking home another victory 42-24, defending their home turf again.
This week will see the Eagles travel away for the first time this season, making the trip up north to take on the Brooklyn Kings.
